Grading Period ExtensionThe first quarter grading period has been extended to November 2nd. Due to a late start to the school year and two hurricanes. The ALA board voted on Wednesday, October 24th to extend the grading period. Report cards will go home November 9th.
Late Work Policy All work is expected to be turned in on time unless a student is absent. If a student does not turn in their assignment on time, they will have 3 days to complete it and turn it in. Each day that an assignment is turned in late, 10 points will be deducted from their grade. The lowest a student will receive on an assignment is a 50, IF they turn it in by the 3rd day after the due date. After the 3rd day, the student will earn a grade of Zero.. We understand that the adjustment to middle school can be quite difficult for some so up to this point we have given much grace and allowed extensions on projects and accepted work past 3 days late. This will not longer be the case. We are moving into the 2nd grading period and the late work policy will be strictly enforced. sWe are starting a new section of our blog that will have links to online articles you may find useful in your survival in parenting a middle schooler. Middle School can be the most difficult time for both students and parents. I've personally been through this twice already and have am currently parenting a 7th grader. The amount of drama, emotions, and hormone is enough to drive any sane parent crazy. This weeks article is "Motivating Middle Schoolers: A Parent’s Guide to Navigating Academics" from Parent Toolkit. The article references use of the school counselor. We currently do not have a school counselor. I recommend you instead utilize your child's leadership advisory teacher as a liaison. The Leadership Advisory teacher spends the most time with your child and most likely know them the best.

Unfortunately, we did not make it through a 3rd full week of school. We hope that all made it through the storm with no damage. As a result of the school closings several things that were supposed to happen were delayed.
If you choose not to participate in ALA's 1:1 iPad program please be informed that our expectation is that every student has access to a device at home to complete online and digital homework assignments.
