Ascend @ Lee County FairIf you are at the fair this week September 11-16th stop by the 6th Grade Digital media's exhibit on Digital Citizenship. We spent the last week learning about digital citizenship and are showing exhibiting what we have learned at the fair. Tuesday Is Student Night - Student k-12 receive free admission until 7pm. No wrist bands available for Tuesdays but all rides are $2 (Tuesday only). Gate price for Tuesday and Sunday is $5. All other nights $8

Ascend Leadership Academy got off to a great Start Wednesday, August 29th. We hope you all are as excited as we are to have begun the school year at this great new community school.. Important Documents:An important pack of documents was sent home with your students either during open house or in advisor class. These documents included: Student Information form, Family Income Verification form, and a Media Release form.. If you have not sent these in yet please return them by Wednesday, September 5th.. Ascend Leadership Academy uses a 10 point grading scale: A = 90-100 B = 80-89 C = 70-79 D = 60 - 69 F = Anything below a 60 The 6th Grade Aces team will be using the following grade categories an weights in all classes.
Classwork and Homework = 30% Projects = 40% Assessments = 20% Teamwork = 10%
Meet our Lead InnovatorsMrs. Breeding - MathToni Breeding will be the sixth grade Mathematics Lead Innovator at Ascend Leadership Academy. She has over 15 years teaching experience spanning elementary and middle school, the majority of it being in Texas. Mrs. Breeding believes that everyone can not only learn math but enjoy it! She brings enthusiasm and interest to her classroom which makes learning math fun. She moved to North Carolina In 2011 with her husband and daughter. In her spare time she enjoys reading, traveling, and being outdoors. Mrs. Breeding is excited to begin building relationships and establishing learning communities with her students and families. Mrs. Lamb - Digital MediaMrs. Lamb began her teaching career in 1996. Since then she has: taught high school business classes, written curriculum for the state of North Carolina, ran a graphic design firm, founded a 501c3 non profit and most recently taught middle school STEM classes. Mrs. Lamb is a Pastor’s wife and mother of 5 beautiful children who range in age from 8 to 21. She enjoys spending time with her family, attending church functions, and serving her community. Mrs. Lamb believes that forming positive relationships with students is the key to student success. Every student wants to learn some just learn differently than others. She is dedicated to getting to know her students and finding that one thing that really sparks their desire to learn. Mrs. Selman - HumanitiesMrs. Selman is ALA’s Sixth Grade Humanities Lead Innovator. This will be her 15th year of teaching. She previously taught 4th grade at Anderson Creek Academy Charter School in Spring Lake, North Carolina and has taught various other elementary school grades as well as English as a Second Language (ESL) in Texas, Georgia and Kentucky. She is a busy mom of four wonderful kids. Besides spending time with her family, she enjoys being involved in church activities, spending time outdoors, and writing. She believes every student can succeed when given the right tools and guidance and feels it is a great privilege and responsibility to equip students with the knowledge and tools to be successful. She is excited about the new opportunity to work with students at Ascend Leadership Academy this year and looks forward to helping students meet their goals and reach their highest potential. Ms. Schrader - ScienceMs. Schrader is the proud mother of 3 wonderful children and a devoted teacher. She began teaching in 2016 after joining Teach for America and training in Kinston, NC. Her 2 years of service in Vance County Schools formed the basis for her teaching philosophy. She believes that every child deserves to be met wherever they are and offered a first rate education. Ms. Schrader will be teaching 6th grade science at Ascend Leadership Academy, and looks forward to inviting all her students to join her on a journey of learning this year.
